My classroom consists of thirty students over six sections for a total of one hundred eighty 7th & 8th graders. We have two classroom sessions each week focusing on various fitness, health, nutrition, and wellness topics throughout the year. We also incorporate three fitness labs each week and track individual results.
My students make up our districts 7th and 8th grades and come from three different elementary schools.
My class is an elective the students select and they have my class the entire year.
Over the course of the year the students grow incredibly with their comprehension and application of various physical and cognitive concepts and principles focusing on health, wellness, fitness levels, and nutrition. My students set physical goals at the beginning of the year and are tested in various ways throughout the year in an effort to reach those goals. My students each have a personal account with our fitness testing software, Wodify, and this project will allow us to set up two portable computer stations in my lab so students can immediately record and track their fitness levels on a specific daily workout.
My Project
The requested two Acer Chromebooks will be used in our fitness lab as portable computer stations used to allow students to record and analyze their fitness data immediately after working out. I have a relationship with the company Wodify that provides us with fitness testing and tracking software over the Internet to allow students to track progress, analyze success, set goals, and track their nutrition. These stations will provide students the opportunity to use technology each day in the classroom and will also provide additional support outside of the lab with their portability.
This project will allow all of my students to have access to Chromebook laptop computers and the Internet immediately following their workouts, rather than having to track their data on paper and pencil.
It will provide each student the opportunity to record months of data and analyze that data to track success and reach goals set in the beginning of the year. It will also allow me to incorporate technology in each of my lessons, which is a district goal.
