My first grade students are a group of eager to learn students who come in to school every morning with a bright smile on their faces and questions about what they are going to experience that day.
They have a voracious desire to learn and are asking if they can stay to learn more at the end of the school day. They are a group of diverse learners with some students that have difficulties, including special needs, but that does not diminish their enthusiasm.
My school in an urban district with seven other elementary schools. We have many with free or reduced lunches. However we have not yet made it to Title I status, which means we do not receive much extra funding like six of the other elementary schools in our district.
My Project
I envision using the laptop in many ways to enhance the learning of my students. One is to create lessons that can be projected on the large screen using my document camera. There are so many different tools that are accessible on the Internet to enhance lessons that it would be wonderful to be able to use them. Being able to save the created lessons and just tweak them from year to year based on the needs of the learners that I have would also be a valuable time-saver. The time-saved would be useful to create new lessons.
As a teacher, I know that there are many tools that are wonderful resources to use to enhance learning that are on the Internet. However with only one computer in the classroom, I am not able to do as much as I would like with my students on the Internet. If I was to have the laptop I would be able to access books and videos that are on the Internet and show them to the whole class and enhance and add to their learning experience.
Donations to this project will improve my classroom by giving me freedom to teach using the laptop in connection to my document camera and opening up a whole new world for my class.
I can create lessons at home and project them on to the screen for the whole class to view, as well as using the Internet to access more technology and tools. This would benefit my students in many ways by giving them more opportunities to learn and broadening their horizons, as well as peaking their interest more.
