A typical day in my classroom is the morning meeting. This is the time where the children share. It could be anything from something that happened at home to something that they want.
Some of the children are living in shelters.
They attend a public school located in a poverty-stricken area. Many are of African, Hispanic, Caribbean and Middle Eastern descent. There is a large number of students who are English language learners.
The school is a small community-based school located in Crown Heights. It ranges from Pre-K to fifth grade. Most of the families in the community have been sending their children to our school for years. Most of the children in our school receive free breakfast and lunch. Our school has many extracurricular activities to involve the children. The children really enjoy the activities.
As we all know technology is the way of the future. I will have a class of 32 students and we have four computers in the classroom. However, only two computers in the classroom are working. A laptop would be great in the classroom. The children would be able to engage in activities that would improve their reading and math skills. We would also use it to write during writer's workshop. The children enjoy seeing their work on the screen. It makes them feel very proud to see the work that they are capable of producing. The children love technology!!
