This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach a remedial reading class to low-income, mostly minority students. I have middle school students who are reading behind grade level and therefore are very reluctant readers. One hundred percent of my middle school gets a free lunch and over 90% of the school is classified as a minority.
Many of our scholars come from single family households, without the means to provide their students with the necessary school supplies for the year.
Many of our scholars have experienced indescribable hardships and come to school as a safe haven for their personal struggles. Often, some scholars have to walk through areas of violence to and from school.
Despite these hardships, we believe that our scholars deserve the best educational experience and that we need to work together with families, schools and the community, to provide our scholars with the skills necessary to have the most opportunities to thrive.
My Project
These technology items will allow us to have a technology for each scholar in the classroom.
These will allow everyone to be able to access the information they need to bridge gaps in their reading.
Students will be able to get background information through research and watch videos or see pictures which is extremely important in a subject like science where students have not experienced a lot of the things they are studying firsthand.
The headphones will be used to allow students who were possibly absent or are behind on their assignments the opportunity to watch videos online to get background information on an individualized basis. The docking stations will provide a safe place for our technology to be stored and charged overnight and students to house and charge their personal devices to provide a distraction-free classroom. The flash drives will provide a way for scholars to work in different places (home, media center, classroom) and not lose their work. Your generous donation can provide this opportunity.
