Ms. Bond from Washington DC is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need iPads to help make teaching and learning more meaningful and fun.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Our scholars come from a diverse background in the inner-city of Washington DC. We are a global studies campus in the nation's capital; more than 20 countries are represented in our building.
Our entire student population qualifies as low-income or at-risk.
I serve a majority of young people from persistently disadvantaged households, but that is just a single facet of who they are. While 99% of my students may come from homes with little to no resources, 100% of my students are eager to learn, excited for an opportunity to showcase their talents, extremely creative and ready to grow academically.
As a special education teacher and a digital media teacher, these iPads will be beneficial to every student that steps foot in my classroom. My students will have the opportunity to develop advanced technology skills that will be beneficial to them in the working world. They will learn how to create a google email and navigate the google drive interface. They will have the opportunity to conduct research independently, practice their math skills on computer-based programs at their own pace, access different text at appropriate lexile levels, and even use social media for learning.
Technology enables true differentiation.
With iPads, students can work through different skills at their own pace. Consequently, no students will get lost because we are moving too fast and no students will get bored because we are moving too slow. My digital media students will have the opportunity to use the iPads for research, image manipulation, video production, and note-taking. They can capture images, write articles and publish them all on one device.
