This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Bertrand Russell once said "Mathematics, rightly viewed, possesses not only truth, but extreme beauty." The donation of a projector will allow my students to explore this beauty every day in my classroom.
My inquisitive Algebra I students attend a Title I high school in Missouri.
Approximately 98% of them are eligible for free and reduced lunch and only 25% of them proceed to a four year institution after graduation. While many of them are just as eager to learn as students in other, more affluent school districts, they have not been afforded the same opportunities to succeed.
My Project
Technology has become ubiquitous in the modern workplace. And yet, technology is absent from my classroom, causing my students to fall behind their peers. A projector would first be used by my students to use software to learn how to graph and write linear equations.
With a projector and stand I'll be able to bring Algebra to life for my students.
A projector will allow them to explore the explanatory power of algebra, discover how math is at work in their everyday lives, and hopefully ease the trepidation with which many of them approach the study of mathematics.
