This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school was severely damaged by Hurricane Harvey, so now we are housed at our local high school. Even before the hurricane, our students faced many adversities because of their low socioeconomic status. Many of my students' families had a difficult time meeting their daily basic needs. Despite my students' obstacles, they are great kids and still strive to be successful. Their efforts are many times thwarted because we don't have a variety of instructional materials available to us. Even with the lack of basic supplies, we still strive to be the best. Hurricane Harvey hit us, but it didn't kill us.
My Project
I want to start a tutorial rewards program for my class. If my students come in for tutorials to either catch up on work or get extended help they will get rewarded. They have to attend a certain number of tutorials during the week and then they are rewarded with game time at the end of the week. In this project I'm requesting a Nintendo Switch console. This is a fun gaming system that our kids will love! Plus two games, Mario Odyssey and a racing game. Also in the project, I've included non-spill tops for our classroom water machine.
My goal is to create an entertainment activity center in my classroom that will motivate my students to participate and interact positively with their peers and myself.
They will love playing these games as a reward for showing up to tutorials and getting their work done. For some this is also their only outlet to being able to play some of the more recent and fun games. Teaching my students that keeping a positive attitude and working hard will pay off is a huge key! Your generous donations will help motivate students to learn!
