Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As an Inclusion specialist in public school, I get to meet the needs of a variety of students qualified under the special education program.
"Inclusion students shine a light of hope and inspiration by persevering against all odds.
My students come to school excited to discover new things. They strive to stay caught up with their grade level peers despite their obstacles. They are challenged every day with odds such as learning disabilities in reading, writing, and math, overstimulation, hearing impairment, autism, intellectual disabilities, ADHD, and emotional disturbances. They face their everyday challenges with a smile and a determination to overcome. They are truly inspiring to watch as they do their best and grow. Their effect on their peers as they lend a helping hand and celebrate their wins brings light to the world.
My Project
Technology has helped my students grow leaps and bounds. From the ones that can’t spell or just need help building vocabulary to the ones who can barely write the alphabet, they have started writing short essays using technology.
Students with certain disabilities have a hard time connecting and communicating but technology has helped in filling in the gap.
Half of my students cannot read above a kindergartner level and have been struggling with phonics. Since they started playing computer phonics games they have started catching on.
Technology has also helped my students connect more when testing. It allows them to use accommodations to take their grades to the next level.
Unfortunately, the only technology I have for my students is left over laptops that have at least 4 or more missing keys. I believe my students deserve better. I hope you will join with me to provide better.
