Our school is an immensely diverse population in Sterling Heights, Michigan. A large number of our students have come as refugees from the war-torn countries of Syria and Iraq and have many challenges to face in integrating into the American fabric.
The neighborhood itself has small brick ranch homes but is in transition as owners are choosing to age in place.
Many of our students' families are subsidized by the government in nearby apartments. We have 65% of our students receiving free and reduced-price breakfast and lunch.
Our high school theatrical productions are largely student run, and our shop is in need of a nailer/stapler for our upcoming musical. The one that we had broke, and we are doing a very large set, so this will make for a true hands-on power tool operating lesson and promote safety when using power tools.
Our MIFA show and children’s show will also benefit from the purchase of this item.
We have a student shop head who will be training our stagecraft class on the safety and use of various power tools, and a pneumatic nailer would truly be an amazing addition to our school.
