Mrs. B. from NY is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need computers to maximize their learning potential and to learn the skills needed to help them be successful in today's technological world.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students are hard-working, persistent, ambitious, affectionate, and fun-loving. They greet me warmly each day with a “Good Morning Mrs B.". They love to learn and get so excited when they “get it.” I believe in them and more importantly, encourage them to believe in themselves.
I work in a title 1 school where the majority of the students live in households with Incomes below the Federal Poverty Level.
As a result, for many of my students a computer is considered a “luxury” item that many cannot afford. Of my 12 students only two have working computers at home. This means for most of them their computer time is limited to their usage in school.
We are currently in the age of technology and computers play a vital role in just about every field. Technology is quite literally just about everywhere--entwined in almost every part of our culture. It affects how we live, work, play, and most importantly learn. It is vital that students get adequate time on computers so they can get the skills they need to integrate technology into their lives both inside and outside of the classroom. Skills that will allow them to eventually participate in today’s job force, in higher academia, and further improve their skills and abilities in general.
My students are in a 12:1:1 self-contained special education setting.
This setting requires additional adult support and specialized/specially designed instruction in order to engage students. Computers would allow me to provide individualized reading and math interventions daily. Students would be able to work on fluency, phonics skills, and comprehension all catered to their individual needs, and abilities. When working on math skills students would be able to work on fluency of addition, subtract, multiplication and division equations and so much more. They would be able to engage in project based activities, academic research, and would allow me to connect with students of all learning styles.
These computers will impact my students not just now, but for years to come. I thank you for taking the time to read this and for your careful consideration in helping me provide my students with the tools they need to thrive.
