Eager, enthusiastic, and curious: these are three characteristics that I want to fuel in my seventh graders this school year and in the years to come. Seventh graders are experiencing a new building, new teachers, and changing classes every period for the first time in middle school. Their school lives have just taken a major turn towards independence. Student attitudes begin to shift in seventh grade, and I love being a major part of helping them grow in their independence.
Technology, such as Chromebooks, empowers students and fosters independence.
Chromebooks in our classroom will allow students to work towards learning independently, continue improving coding skills through Google and Scratch coding projects, research STEM and STEAM projects, and work on science enrichment programs.
My Project
In order to prepare today's students for tomorrow's world, they must not only have a grasp on how technology fuels careers, but they must also be well rounded students that can work in group setting to communicate and problem solve. Another Chromebook will add to the long term goal of eventually having a classroom set of 25 Chromebooks for students to complete Google coding projects in Scratch, to research and complete STEM and STEAM projects within small groups, and to complete science enrichment programs, such as USA Test Prep and Moby Max.
Currently, my students share five Chromebooks in our classroom or must wait their turn in the computer lab that we share with the entire middle school.
With class sizes that range from eighteen to twenty-nine students each class period, sharing a small station of Chromebooks is not idea. Adding towards our goal of a classroom set will encourage the students and help tech our classroom out!
