As a second year teacher, I am coming into the classroom with minimal materials, but full motivation to mold our future leaders' brains. I have a great group of students who all have amazing potential to do something awesome with their lives! Most of my students come from homes with little resources (especially after Hurricane Florence) and are unable to bring necessary materials to class. The majority of my students receive free or reduced-priced lunch, as well as Backpack buddies (making sure they have food at home on the weekends.) After Hurricane Florence our students and our schools suffered some serious loss. A lot of the students in our school were forced to leave their homes and move to alternative housing. We are currently in the process of building back up our community.
No child should feel held back from learning because they don't have necessary materials in the classroom.
I want to see every one of my students succeed in and out of the classroom. With the proper materials, I am positive it will make a major positive impact in my classroom.
My Project
Being able to incorporate iPads into our learning gives students access to a much broader learning field. Using the OSMO in combination with the iPads will allow students to do interactive work when in centers. These resources will allow me to continue to work with small groups while my students are still engaged and being instructed when I am working with other students.
Technology is the way of the future and learning how to utilize it is a key to student success.
Adding in a different form of seating in our room can allow students a comfortable place to sit while they do their work. After the Hurricane this year, I have tried to make my classroom as comfortable and inviting as I can. Several of our students suffered great loss and need a place they can feel is "theirs." I want my students to get excited to come to school knowing they have a fun and functional learning environment.
