Jerry Blumengarten said, "Tech gives the quietest student a voice...." In the technology-driven world, we live, student learning thrives when using tools such as iPads to expand reading success.
My school has almost 800 children, including some in ESL or special education programs, and we are a Title I campus, meaning we have a large concentration of low-income students.
Our principal's new motto this year is, "Every Gator, Every Need, Every Day!" My students are eager to learn about using technology. We take pride in being a school where children are successful. While striving for the best, we rise above the rest.
Because my students come from low-income families, they aren't given the chance at home to use many of the "tech tools" that most of us take for granted. I am thrilled at this opportunity to enhance their abilities with a gadget that makes learning "cool."
My Project
Even though I am a third-grade teacher, not all of my students are on the same reading level as their peers. There are THOUSANDS of apps to use with the iPad that would allow my students to integrate technology while working on becoming fluent readers and expanding their learning. They could follow along with eBooks, play games that target our reading skills, practice spelling and vocabulary, and create projects to share their learning. All of these can be tailored to each student's individual need and shared at home by building a digital portfolio using apps like Seesaw. By creating a portfolio, parents can access our classroom learning and support their child's learning at home.
Being realistic, I understand giving an iPad to every student is not financially feasible, but supporting this project with your donations will allow me to provide my students with an exciting new resource that will encourage new ways to learn.
My students will love using an iPad for apps such as Flipgrid, Touchcast, Kahoot, Vocabulary & Spelling City, epic! books, iStation, Chatterpix, and much more to make learning exciting! Thank you for your support!
