Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are an inner-city school where the majority of the population receives free lunch and there is a high poverty rate. These students face challenges every day in their community as well as in their academic lives. In our school, we have a satellite program where students with mild or moderate cognitive impairments learn in a high school setting. These students range in age from 14 to 21 years of age with a grade level of K to 3rd grade.
These special needs students not only require studies that will help them in basic math, reading, and writing but also need help with daily living skills.
They spend part of the day in school learning the required courses and the other part of the day in the field at local stores to help them be productive members of society.
These students are challenged academically and some physically. We need to give them as many opportunities to succeed as possible. This is why I am asking for your help. The students will be grateful to anyone who helps them.
My Project
I would like to add this iPad and pen to the classroom so the students with different abilities can work independently.
This iPad and gift card can be used to download educational apps and allow them to use the pen to draw, which provides them a calming activity.
All of this equipment can help all the teachers in the program to buy and create a curriculum geared towards their students. It will help give each student an individual spin on their education. This project is the beginning of creating a space for the students to work, play and learn with tools that will benefit them emotionally and academically.
