I am a special education teacher at one of the best schools around. We are a Pre-K-5 school with over 1000 students from diverse backgrounds. We are part of a larger learning community, and we engage our neighboring community for food banks, needy child fund, a tele-medicine clinic, club day, leadership events, parent nights, Good News Club, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girls Inc and so much more!
We are a "Leader In Me" school where everyone can be a leader.
Everyone has genius, and we develop the whole child by building relationships and empowering students. We are a diverse community. Despite our large size, we partner up for many things and relationships are built beyond your own classroom. We do club days where students from multiple grades work together on things that interest them. Older students often give up their recess to help the younger students practice sight words and math facts.
My Project
We can never seem to keep up with technology. This past year I replaced all of our desktops from 2008 with Chromebooks except for one. That one desktop (I call the dinosaur) we use with the Promethean board for whole group interactive lessons especially for math, and the DVD program that teaches reading skills with songs. A Chromebook doesn't have all the necessary connects to use it with the Promethean board, or the DVD drive. We also learned that Windows 7 is no longer supported and it's too old to convert to Windows 10. The dinosaur is barely hanging on.
Pretty soon, the last of the dinosaur computers will die off and we need something to replace it.
This new laptop still has some older technology we need like the DVD drive and LAN and USB ports. I will be able to connect it to the school printers and the color printer we have in the classroom so the students can have access to colorful visuals and schedules they use in their general education class without waiting a day so I can print what they need from home. A computer is a basic need for me and my students on a daily basis. Thank you for helping us upgrade.
