Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have 18 wonderful first grade students that I teach in an urban/low income community in New Jersey. Several of my students are below-level and struggle in basic literacy skills such as identifying letters, sounds, word recognition, etc. Because literacy is the foundation of educational success which furthers academic growth in later grades resulting in college-readiness, not only I but my students need YOU!
I would like to tackle the struggles that my students are facing early on in their schooling in order to help close the achievement gap and build their self-confidence.
Many of my students feel discouraged coming into school because they struggle with content, especially in literacy. The project that I am working on will certainly aide in helping them become on-level or even exceed further. 3 of my students have already been retained and are repeating this grade.
My students face so many challenges both in school and out-some challenges that are way too much to handle for a 6/7 year old. The project that I am making will help each and every child and put smiles on their faces. They will learn WHILE having fun.
My Project
I am trying to further implement technology in the classroom in order to help my 18 wonderful students. This will help them to reach their full potential by the end of the year as well as be exceptionally prepared for 2nd grade. Nothing is more exciting for a child to learn through hands-on activities/projects as well as technology.
This will reach more students in my classroom and can differentiate learning for my ELLs (English Lanuage Learners) as well as students who struggle with basic math and literacy concepts.
There are several educational apps that I am so excited to upload on these tablets that will certainly reach my goals in starting this project in the first place.
