Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I currently teach at an extremely poor Title I school in the city of Chicago where I feel I have learned more from the students than they have from me.
As a first year teacher, I was fortunate enough to receive this job. Although, it has been extremely difficult to educate students without the necessary supplies, yet, our students still come to school eager to learn. Our school rarely has extra funding for enriching materials and if there is, funds are used for the upper grades. Many of my students' families will never have additional money to purchase educational materials. Therefore, I hope to be able to provide a fun and interesting way of learning, so my students can succeed in life, in and out of the classroom.
My Project
I am asking for headphones with a microphone and batteries for my students. My students are eager learners that enjoy using technology to learn. They love using the technology we have in the classroom on a daily basis. The headphones with microphones would be a great addition to our technology center where students utilize a reading program that requires them to listen to words and repeat back the words into a microphone. I am also asking for batteries for my students' listening center. Students participate in the listening center daily utilizing wireless headphones that require batteries to practice phonics skills, which is a must for my bilingual students!
My students need these items to further support their reading in the classroom.
With the donation of these materials, students will have what they need to become better readers. It will allow them to excel and develop a love for reading.
