My class is an amazing combination of enthusiasm, energy, interest, excitability, compassion, and power. They are "thinkers" and "builders" and "artists" and "teachers." Students are learning that they can use their "gifts" to make a positive difference in their homes, school, and community. By working to "solve problems" and "spread kindness" they will undoubtedly be change-makers.
These children demonstrate determination and grit on a daily basis.
They care about each other. They celebrate success together and work together to help when something is hard or someone is upset. As five year old's, they have the capability to see that anything is possible and dreams can come true. Some already show aptitude and interest in art, science, architecture and engineering. Others are in awe of "how things work" and can't wait to explore and learn new content.
Given the opportunity, I believe they will utilize their light and energy to make this world a better place.
My Project
Today's students come to school with an innate eagerness to utilize technology. I would love to help students learn to take photos of the work they are completing and create iMovies to share new content they attain in the classroom.
An Apple iPad Mini 4 tablet will allow my kindergarten students new opportunities to grow their imaginations using various applications in the classroom.
The Apple pencil will provide a tool for artistic creation, a practice opportunity for writing letters, sounds, shapes, etc. I would love to help students realize that they can use devices for learning, not just for play. By exposing them to new apps and tools, I anticipate an increased meaningful connection to technology that will support their future learning.
I intend to allow students to use the iPad for reading, writing, math, science, music, art and fitness. In addition, students will be able to collaborate on video projects using the green screen (I'm thinking about them retelling stories, acting out scenes they create, demonstrating exercises they have learned in PE/yoga, and a multitude of other projects...) The headphone adapter will allow students to use headphones we already have in the classroom to preview, edit and listen to apps and programs they will be using.
