Science is exciting, challenging and constantly changing! My students are excited and motivated but are being held back by the resources provided by out district. Conducting science experiments in 2013 with technology from 2000 is not easy to accomplish. Help us become Tech Savvy Scientist!!
My students attend a small Texas town middle school.
We are a Title 1 school with an ever shrinking budget. My students are hard working and dedicated to their school. They love to learn and Science is their favorite subject because the learning is hands on and student centered. The community we live is in is very supportive of their youth, but hard economic times have made it hard on them to give to our schools. Incorporating technology into the everyday lives of my students will open up opportuntuties that will create even more excitement and love for learning!
My Project
Students will use the tablets to research science concepts, participate in virtual labs, communicate with learners in other parts of the world and create their own science investigations. At the present time we are studying Student Inventors and would like to have an Invention Convention at the end of the year. Having technology available in the classroom will allow my students the opportunity to research, create and complete their visions. Many of them have incredible ideas that will only grow bigger with the needed resources available to them. The only technology in the school is in a lab and only accessible once a month. Daily exposure will ensure student success and learning for all!
I have been teaching for 20 years and have prided myself on staying current and making learning fun and relevant to my students.
It is very hard to to live in such a "Tech Savvy" world and teach in an antiquated classroom. I will do WHATEVER IT TAKES to make sure my students succeed. I feel that integrating my science lessons with technology will make this happen. Please help me help my students maximize the time they have left to build a life long love for learning!
