Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a high school science teacher in a vocational-technical school in a large urban school district. The majority of students in our school are male and nearly all are minorities. A large population of the students are low-level learners and approximately one-quarter of them are special education students. Thus, most these students reading and mathematical skills are below grade levels.
My students are inner city students that come from low socio-economic background. Thus, their communities are resource-depleted. In our school there is a great lack of resources and students are not motivated or interested in learning. They often complain of being bored of me having to lecture and use very little visual aids.
There are a number of resources we need in our school. However, as a science teacher, I can use an LCD projector and a laptop to display organisms for biology labs, maps for locating place in Earth science class, for presenting visuals to reduce abstraction, and to present lesson in a PowerPoint format. In other words, students will become motivated and want to be a participant in their learning.
Giving us this gift will show that the community is in solidarity with the schools in their efforts to achieve academic success for students. With your help, you will help provide deserving students with technology that will enhance their learning.
