Mrs. Wright from Indianapolis IN is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need five tablets to improve literacy and technology skills in a world focused on technology more and more each day.

In my kindergarten classroom, students are actively involved in their own learning throughout the day. Engaging in literacy centers is one of their favorite parts of the day. Imagine how excited and engaged students would be if they were able to use educational apps and read stories from tablets!
The students in my school come from very diverse backgrounds.
There are many cultures and languages represented in our building and my classroom. More than 50% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch this school year. Although many of my students face poverty related issues, they come to school with a strong technology background . Often, I observe them discussing how much they love to read and do activities on electronic devices. The amount of technology in our school is very limited. In my classroom, students share four netbooks among 22 students. They often have to wait for their turn and do not have a chance to experience technology on a daily basis. Learning is definitely not the same as when I attended elementary school. We are working really hard to reach our 21st century learners!
The tablets will help to support all learners in my classrooms. There are countless apps that can be used to help students on, above, or below areas in our curriculum in the area of literacy and math. An example of this would be an alphabet app. I have several students struggling to recognize their alphabet. The use of educational apps will provide those students with additional support. Another example would be allowing my accelerated readers to have an ample amount of reading materials at their levels to read. With such a heavy focus on technology in the 21st century, the tablets in my classroom will not only connect learning from school to home, but also provide this much needed experience for students who do not have the opportunity at home.
Our world has changed drastically since I was a student and will continue to change.
Students are coming to school more and more tech savvy each school year. The tablets will provide students with the necessary experience to prepare them for the real world.
