Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are energetic, smart, and thoughtful fifth graders who are eager to learn new things every day. My class consists of students with mixed abilities, students with IEPs, and ENL students. I work in a Title I school in one of the poorest districts in New York. Many students live in shelters, take care of siblings, and have very little home support. In my class, 100% of students receive free lunch. For many of them, school is the safest place for them to be.
Despite all of the challenges my students face, they are eager and excited to come to school and learn every day.
My Project
We were extremely lucky to receive funding for one classroom iPad last year. With just the one iPad, my 26 students had to take turns throughout the week to use it for their targeted math/reading interventions. Individual students used it to go on apps that helped them improve their multiplication and division fluency. Students who read at well below grade level used the iPad to read high interest books through a virtual library called MyOn.
I am requesting one iPad so that more students would be able to use technology for their targeted math/reading intervention.
With this second iPad I would be able to slowly build the technology in my classroom so that a small group of students would be able to learn though the use of technology. It is extremely important that all students have access to technology.
