Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Just like our island of Kaua'i, KES is a melting pot of culture, community and the aloha spirit. My students come from many different backgrounds and have various strengths that all contribute to a class of passionate learners.
Teaching 1st grade assigns me the crucial responsibility of instilling a lifelong love of reading in my students.
Through DonorsChoose, I hope to provide my students with the tools they need in order to thrive as readers, scientists, mathematicians, writers, artists, and above all, happy and successful members of society.
My Project
Today, our society is heavily dependent on technology. Students now take standardized tests through such devices and are expected to have basic computer skills by 3rd grade.
Through having iPads in my class, my students will become accustomed to the basics of operating technological devices as well as have the opportunity to tap into the rich educational resources now at our disposal.
In the educational setting, technology is a passageway to deepening understanding and reinforcing crucial skills. Reading fluency, one of the main focuses of 1st grade, is a skill which can be developed by means of proven education programs such as Smarty Ants, Advanced Reader, KidBiz and more. These programs are engaging, purposeful and above all, effective.
