Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a teacher in an urban setting where the students face many challenges in their daily lives, both inside and out of the classroom. As a special education teacher, my students are those who have been diagnosed with learning disabilities, and come to see me for targeted support. All of my students are currently performing below grade level in mathematics and literacy. Special education teachers work to provide resources in all school subjects for their students, but primarily math and reading.
My Project
Technology that can be given to students through the use of iPads is a gift in classroom learning. There are so many apps and sites that students can use to support and expand learning. My students will be able to use iPads when working independently to increase their fact fluency and accuracy. In classroom learning, the addition of technology through an iPad is a great tool in differentiating learning for some of my students struggling with dysgraphia and dyslexia.
Importantly, the use of technology in a special education classroom, where learning looks different, is especially necessary.
Visually, chart paper and markers will add to the atmosphere of the classroom by adding anchor charts to the walls. These materials can make a direct impact in the atmosphere of classroom learning, as well as in the ways kids are able to learn. Working together, and with myself, to create these charts, students will also be improving their own learning.
Many of my students have a difficult time holding attention in their learning, but in partnership with technology, are hooked. With the help of iPads, headphones, chart paper, and markers my students will be able to do so much more in the classroom!
