My students need 6 laptops, for a mini lab within the classroom to integrate CA Common Core Standards while conducting research and creating multi-media projects across the curriculum.
Technology is the key to the 21st century classroom. I want to inspire my students to be life-long learners, and technology is the answer to their curiosity. Challenging them to ask and answer their own questions through exploration and research will help prepare them for their future.
My 5th graders are eager to learn.
They are full of curiosity and questions. With the integration of the CA State Common Core Standards, my students are expected to use technology in several forms. They are comfortable with technology and I want to teach them how to use it properly and apply their skills to class projects. A mini lab will allow my students access to technology throughout the day and across the curriculum.
My Project
Integrating a mini lab of laptops in my classroom will provide a rich and progressive learning environment for my students. I will be able to integrate technology across the curriculum, and my students will have constant access throughout the day. My students will be able to research and make connections to their learning while using the Internet. They will apply their knowledge using the Microsoft Suite of programs to create brochures, essays, multi-media projects, oral presentations and short videos. State Brochures will be created using proper research skills, as well as analyzing data to import graphs from Excel. My students will also be able to report on Current Events while creating a video. Social Studies and Science will be enhanced as the students explore material through the use of Web Quests. And, finally, my students will advance in our 'Music & Mind' computer program as more time will be spent on math problem solving.

The skills my students learn today will help them adapt to the changing technological environment ahead of them. With the expectation of the CA State Common Core Standards being that technology is embedded into a project-based learning environment, it is crucial that my students have access to and engage in all media throughout the school day.
