Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many of my students do not have access to the most current technology in their homes. If I can provide them with an opportunity to achieve fluency in technology at school, I will feel as though I am helping prepare them for the near of far future.
My students come from diverse backgrounds.
Most of the school's population consists of Hispanic and Vietnamese boys and girls from low socioeconomic backgrounds. A handful of students are labeled Special Ed with disabilities ranging from speech to specific learning disabilities. We are part of the California public school system which has seen better days, and I have spent hundreds of dollars personally to support my needy student population.
My Project
The requested resources will enhance any lesson, standard, and/or skill I am exposing my students to. Technology IS the future, and I am excited for the many possibilities and opportunities an iPad will provide me with to motivate all types of learners in my class. If I can make learning fun and highly engaging, I will only increase the success of all students reaching their goals. I've also requested special clips for marking text evidence to support thoughts and opinions while exploring literature and informational texts. This kind of thinking is where we're headed with the new common core standards, and these clips would be a great addition to classroom discussions. I've also included a material organization rack in my project, so that the text evidence clips, and iPad have a "go to" place for my students and myself.
"Technology is just a tool.
In terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is the most important."
-Bill Gates
Although the importance of students becoming fluent in technology by the end of their K-12 education is key to a successful career in college and life, we must remember technology is an enhancement, not a replacement to the spoken words and influence a teacher has on his or her students.
