I teach ELLs (English Language Learner) students in an urban community where they have so much joy in learning and constantly experiencing life as they know it. ELLs must overcome many challenges, including limited schooling, trauma, and poverty. Some ELLs come from countries where education is not mandated.
My students come from many different countries with different levels of education.
I service high school students that are learning English and some are in special education.
There are ELLs who travel and are constantly moving from one school to another. There are also ELLs who may attend school in their native country, but the quality of education is less than in the United States. I am also a middle school cheerleading coach.
The daily use of the Chromebooks will help prepare my students for college. Students will be taught how to use the laptops to conduct Internet research, use educational websites, and create written documents and multimedia presentations. Using Chromebooks for these tasks will save students time while increasing productivity and learning. Our kids are brilliant and they deserve basic educational resources.
My goal is to provide students with the one-on-one technology necessary to facilitate optimal learning opportunities and expand the personal boundaries of what they can accomplish by increasing efficient use of technology in the classroom and provide individualized differentiated instruction as well as shifting the responsibility of learning to students.
This will also promote collaboration and increased student engagement while building capacity for students. Finally, it will assist students in developing the skills and acquiring the knowledge needed for academic success.
