Help me give my students gain access to one to one technology. These Kindles and headphones will help give one to one technology which is so important now so that students are not sharing germs.
I have a Kindergarten class of 15 students, 8 boys and 7 girls. This class is full of personality and fun loving kids from a small, low income community where most of my students qualify for the free or reduced-price lunch program.
Most of my students do not have access to technology at home to get them ready for the world they will be growing up in.
They are quick learners and when you give them any time to use technology they do incredibly well. Like most kiddos they learn best when having fun!
All of our reading assessments for the Title 1 program is on a computer since my students never see a computer in a school setting normally these tests tend to overwhelm them a great deal. Getting technology in the classroom for all would get them more familiar with it on the day to day basis and allow them to become comfortable and I know it would make a difference on their reading scores.
My Project
Kindergarten is where a large part of reading and math skills begin to bloom. This is the grade can be the beginning to the love of learning for many students. This year our world is "different" then it has been in the past for teaching. The students have to keep a certain distance from each other and they can't share anything. In the past I was able to get Kindles funded through Donors Choose but with everything going on I do not have enough to pass around to all the students for a one to one technology ratio.
Getting enough Kindles that every student has access to technology in the classroom not only would keep germs from passing with the Kindles, but also help my students become more comfortable with technology and that will help their reading assessment scores.
You see, our Title 1 program assesses my Kindergarten quarterly by using a computerized test. When my students only get to use technology in the classroom every now and again (down time to disinfect each device and charge) they are not as comfortable with being put on a computer and it reflects in their scores. This project would help give each student a Kindle so we wouldn't have to disinfect every time a students touches their own Kindle and help them gain technology confidence. Also if a student gets sent home for sickness I can also send home a Kindle for them to work from.
