Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Boston has developed into a hotspot in the coronavirus pandemic. My students are caught in the middle of all of it. Most of my students come from low-income households, live in public housing, apartments, or crowded developments where six-foot social distancing is difficult at best. Many of my students cannot go outside- parks and playgrounds are closed. Access to technology is ongoing for students and supported by the district but does not mirror what I have to demonstrate from a distance.
While I have some supplies available to me at home, I am missing some technology and other things that would help my students learn effectively from a distance.
Now, with school buildings closed for the remainder of the year, and the district relying heavily on remote digital learning, I need to provide my students with an experience that will help them learn remotely- including mirroring the technology they use and using a document camera. "Sorry, I don't know what this looks like on a Chromebook because I have a Mac" is getting old really fast. I want to be able to help my students create, efficiently access the technology, and mirror the creative experience for them.
My Project
This technology will help me show my students exactly what to do on platforms like Zoom and YouTube. The Chromebook will allow me to mirror the technology provided for distance learning, and will streamline technical issues like, "I don't know what this part looks like on your end since I have a Mac." The webcam will help me record and stream myself creating so the students can see in real-time over zoom or be able to use later for reference.
These two critical pieces of technology will help me transform the distance learning experience of my students and make it more meaningful as well as help them create great works of art.
