Our school is located in the rural south. Most of our students are African-American, and many would be considered at-risk for one reason or another. Many of our students live in dire poverty. As a result, learning is not always the biggest issue in their lives.
For many of my students, it is hard for their families to provide the basic materials they need for class.
Since most of my children come from impoverished backgrounds, it is understandable that this can happen. In some cases, their parents have to choose between buying school supplies and putting food on the table. Because of this, we need help to make sure these students have the items they need on a daily basis.
My Project
This project is very important for us. Since we are totally a computerized school and our students do all of their work using computers, it is vital for us to have machines that are in working order. Thanks to DonorsChoose.org, we were able to replace many of our older machines with better ones. Still, we have a long way to go. Since our school is on its second year of using computerized learning, machines will break and die as the year continues. We already have a few machines that have met their maker during the summer. Because of this, we are in great need of two computers.
The first computer is an all-in-one system.
It will be used with our students as they work on art projects and with assignments that require greater capabilities. This machine pretty much is a standard machine for these assignments and can be greatly utilized. The other machine is a normal desktop computer. It is a good system because it comes with the monitor and other items. This will ensure that older equipment will not be used with a newer machine. This will ensure everything will continue to work.
For many of our kids, this is their last chance. Being an alternative school, all of our students are with us because they have made mistakes. Please have them rise above this and achieve their total potential this year!
