Our school has a diverse population of eager learners. These students face economical challenges, as well as the struggle to learn English. Although their motivation & eagerness to learn is high, they often don't have access to the variety of available supplements to their education.
My students are English Language Learners from many different countries all over the world.
They range from kindergarten to the fifth grade. All with varying level of English language proficiency. We do our best to keep them inspired and doing their best.
My Project
With added technology, when my students are working in small group settings, we will have access to a plethora of resources on the Internet. For example, BrainPop, IXL (a math website that kids absolutely love!), and Code Academy (a site where the students can use individual accounts to learn different computer programming languages). This particular laptop is also capable of handling special project-based learning activities like video production, book creation, music creation & recording, and other mutlimedia projects with ease. These types of projects encourage a lot of conversation and engaging deeply with the use of the English language. The added benefit is that early exposure to these technologies can also provide a strong base for exploration into technology.
Being able to provide students with access to resources that support them in the level that they are currently at, in an effort increase their academic performance to grade level and beyond is the goal of this project.
Technology excites them! Pairing technology and education will serve as a huge motivator for the kids. Providing opportunities for project-based learning will broaden and deepen their learning experience.
