Forty years ago, Apple was just a fruit. Twenty years ago, Google was just a funny word. Did you know that over half of the jobs that current pre-kindergarten students will hold when they graduate high school in 2033 don't even exist yet?
I work as the technology lab teacher in a great, diverse, and effective school.
Here, we have a mix of students who live locally, within walking distance, and many others who travel by school bus, city bus, and private van service to come to our school daily.
We have general education classes, special education services, and students who have been identified as gifted and talented. Our students were born in this country or overseas; many are new the the English language. I teach students with professional parents and students who rely on government assistance to live and eat. Every one of these students are "my kids".
My Project
In the past, I have led the school's digital photography club for selected and interested third, fourth and fifth grade students. This year, I am expanding that club to include additional technology and creative aspects, turning it into a Tech-Create program.
One of the fun additions to the club will be working with the school's Cricut machine.
The students will be logging on to the online Cricut design website and creating personalized logos. They will then be able to print them out on vinyl using the Cricut machine, and with the heat press, actually create a wearable final product! I know that adding these items to our club will expand the fun and creativity, providing a hands-on, minds-on experience!
