Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is an elementary school that serves students from kindergarten to fifth grade. We are located in the middle of a diverse and dense urban population in Los Angeles, California. We are part of a Spanish one-way bilingual immersion program.
We are a Title I school that serves low-income families from different cultural backgrounds and diverse needs.
As a Title I school, providing essential learning tools is vital in supporting student learning.
My Project
This pandemic has altered all of our lives in different ways. It is no news that it has been particularly difficult for students, parents, and educators alike. What we thought would be a two-week school shutdown has now turned into eight months and counting of distance learning. As we prepare to transition into hybrid learning in the near future technology is needed to keep with the rapid changes.
There are multiple technological needs to teach virtually successfully.
The apple pencil would help me use the iPad interactively with my students and support the many virtual platforms that I use for distance learning. For example, I could highlight the steps to a mathematical problem or edit a piece of writing using the pencil directly on the learning platform in live time. The wireless keyboard would support the use of the multiple screens being used to deliver my lessons. It would also allow me to respond to students in live time. As we plan our transition to hybrid learning the wireless keyboard would help me respond to students at home at any point in my classroom as I'm tending to students physically in the classroom. Technology has allowed us to stay connected to our students and families during these times and it will also help expand the many ways we stay connected and continue learning.
