The scholars in our school have learned that it is the "why" that matters, not the "what". They crave learning and have shown that by being connected with each other, they can truly achieve more!
One of our campus goals this year is to provide our scholars with the opportunity to connect with kids beyond their normal friend group through House Teams.
Middle school kids, whether they say it out loud or not, want to know the quiet kid, the involved kid, the organized kid, and the talkative kid so they can gain experiences by establishing relationships with one another. Our scholars have so much to learn from each other. We are creating a space for that to happen each week, but we need your help!
My Project
These supplies will kick start the initiation of House Teams at our school this year. House Teams is one of our Big 3 Ideas to impact the culture of our campus while also serving as a time to provide instructional support for our scholars.
Our entire campus serves about 750 students and it is sometimes hard for a middle school student to get connected and plugged in.
With our new structure, each student will be part of one of six "houses" evenly divided among our student body (about 125 students each). Each house is further broken down into "families" (about 30 students each) with two lead teachers that will allow everyone the opportunity to have an even smaller group of students to build relationships with.
Every Monday when the entire campus meets with their family, as part of their larger house, they will have the opportunity to build community and connections across campus. We will be able to use the dice and cards for team building activities and the craft supplies to make posters and mind maps of our school goals. Imagine kids talking about positive character traits, digital citizenship, and the power of communication-that is what these supplies will help to develop. Having these items readily available will help us create magic during this time and bring a true sense of belonging for every member of our school.
