Our school is comprised of hard-working teachers that try to keep our eager students engaged by creating a loving and educational environment. The epitome of hope is in the eyes of a kindergartner. Every morning, I am honored to walk into a classroom composed of enthusiastic five-year-olds that want to learn about everything. They are engaged in every activity because they are excited to gain more of an understanding about concepts and objects that are relevant to them. This group of students are very opinionated and creative. They ask a lot of questions, in order to gain clarity about various topics. I want to challenge them by having a classroom full of creativity and discovery. While some of my students lack educational resources, their families support them with love and attention. As an educator, I would like to provide a classroom filled with various educational experiences for my students in order to encourage a love of Math, Science, Music, and Reading.
My classroom involves hands-on learning, in which they work in small groups to complete a variety of tasks. Kid friendly activities help students build confidence. When my students work independently in work stations, I want them to feel confident and comfortable when completing these activities, in order to allow me to work with my small groups.
These new materials will transform my classroom into a student-centered learning environment that will improve the reading & writing abilities of my students, encourage their drive to be engineers, and make transitions easier.
Fun activities motivate and encourage students to do their best because it is catered to their learning ability. The writing activities will give my students guidance towards learning their letters, creating stories, and practicing their penmanship. The STEM activity will engage my students and allow them to create, as we explore structure design during one of our Project Lead The Way building activities.
Flexible seating allows my students to feel more relaxed when working in small groups to complete assignments. Last year, my class received a sofa. It made our library workstation more inviting because students that couldn’t read actually grabbed books and attempted to read. Another sofa will provide enough space for all four students in their workstation to sit together while reading. The additional tables and chairs will hopefully give them more motivation to write and create engaging stories. Also, I will be able to store activities on these tables, instead of using the desks of the students.
When students feel comfortable, they tend to work harder because they hold each other accountable for their learning. The flexible seating, writing activities, and the new STEM center will create an exciting dynamic to our classroom.
