Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are intellectually disabled and learning disabled students with behavior concerns which limits their interactions with peers.
Their reading and writing levels are at the 2nd-grade level and math skills are basic.
All of them receive free meals, and many live with relatives instead of parents.
They will require life-long community and family support to obtain and keep employment after high school. Several of them will never be able to live on their own.
These students are in special education class for 7/8 periods.
My Project
My students need athletic balls and the targets for team training help the students learn how to work on a team.
These special needs students need to learn to work on a team and playing sports is one of the best ways to learn.
Having fun while learning to work as a team will help them not only learn life-long active activities but will help them learn how to be a part of a team. Many of these students learn at individual levels and not as part of the group. Group work is difficult when everyone works at a different academic and cognitive level.
