Help me give my students manipulatives for math bins, including UniLink Cubes, Build 'N Blox, Geoboards, Base Ten Blocks, Centimeter Cubes, Coin Sets, and Student Clocks.
Hands-on exploration is one of the greatest learning tools for students! My third grade students here in our suburban Utah community are eager learners, especially when it comes to mathematics. Giving them the opportunity to learn through a hands-on approach will allow me to reach all levels of learners.
My students love problem-solving!
They are quick to take on new challenges and stretch their thinking, often times giving me something to think about as well. I have children with a wide range of abilities in my classroom this year. I spend a great deal of time re-teaching concepts as well as finding extended learning opportunities for the students who are ready to move ahead. Finding the right balance is the key!
My Project
Exploration is what math is all about! I would love to give my students the opportunity to explore math concepts through the use of math bins. The math bins will be used during our guided math time and will emphasize the concept being taught. They will also be used for interventions for struggling students.
What will the students see when they open the math bins?
Each bin will focus on a standard in the math curriculum. UniLink Cubes will be used to reinforce place value concepts. The building bricks will be used for multiplication and division concepts. Exploring with the geoboards will strengthen a student's understanding of 2-D shapes, studying sides and angles. I look forward to working side-by-side with my students as math takes on a whole new meaning for them!
