Working together can be very difficult. Imagine working together under intense pressure for a very short period of time to complete something that has never been done before.
I have 44 high school students who are ambassadors for STEM education, cooperation, good sportsmanship and diversity.
OHS is in a high poverty area and we provide real world work experience for underrepresented and underserved students. Our goal is to make them as ready as possible for whatever challenges may come and to ensure their success! Fifty percent of our students qualify for free/reduced-price lunch and this very diverse team is made up of an incredible cross-section of what the world is really like.
We are more like a family than anything else; we pick each other up when we’re down, we cheer each other on, we provide criticism when it’s needed, but above all, we stick together.
My Project
Team T-Rex needs your help to make sure our robot doesn't become extinct!
Every year our competition robot is named for a different dinosaur.
We have had Littlefoot, Blue, Reptar and most recently, Yoshi. Our robot has undergone some significant damage over the past few seasons, and with close to 50% of our team qualifying for free/reduced-price lunch, we cannot ask the students for money for parts. We refuse to ask the team for a joining fee, as many of our students are from economically disadvantaged areas and they cannot afford to help. We rely on donations and sponsors to help our students break the barriers of poverty and keep them competitive in today's society. Our robot needs parts like the RoboRio and Power Distribution panel to keep us out of the stone ages!
