Mr. Garcia from Seattle WA is requesting sports & exercise equipment through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need basketballs for practice and games. There are 6 teams with 12 players each. 30 practice balls, 6 per team, to run passing and dribbling drills. 2 leather game balls.

We are a Title I School in Seattle, WA. We have a diverse student body with students that are Somalian, Vietnamese, Samoan, African American, Hispanic, and white. 80% of our students receive free and reduced-price lunch. Many of our students are English Language Learners striving to learn English.
We have been acknowledged as a school of distinction in Seattle, 2 years in a row for the progress, our demographic of students have made in state testing.
Our school has an afterschool co-ed basketball intramural league. Teachers coach teams, run the score clock and referee. The league is for 3rd to 5th graders and they are put on 5 teams. We run three-10 week cycles throughout the school year that include practice weeks; 5 week regular season games; and 3 weeks of playoffs.
The students are very enthusiastic about playing in the basketball afterschool program. We get about 60 students per year playing on the intramural squads. The students are placed on balanced teams for competition and development.
Our current teams only have 1-2 basketballs per team, which makes it difficult to have most of the students participating in the practice when working on skills. Students will use the 30 basketballs to practice dribbling and passing skills to help bond as a team.
We are trying to provide different avenues of success for our students.
Many of our students are not from the United States and English is a second language making it more difficult to have immediate success on state testing. Basketball will allow some students to excel while having fun and help build self-esteem. Students will learn social and emotional skills as they interact with each other.
By donating Wilson basketballs you will provide students with a great extracurricular opportunity.
