My students need 2 iPads, protective shields and cases to allow for reinforcement of key fluency skills, increase creation of learning, and improve technology skills.
Remember that one time in school? You know, that time when the lightbulb came on for a tough topic and the pride you felt? Technology has this amazing ability to reach this generation. Students listen to it. I want to offer that type of learning to my amazing fifth graders. Please help me!
In my classroom we integrate all subjects with technology.
I use our Apple TV (Thank You Donors Choose & OshKosh B'Gosh!) to increase student engagement with technology! My favorite quote is "I love you all and there's NOTHING you can do about it." Technology is just one tangible way to LOVE children.
My Project
Students will be utilizing the iPads, shields, and protective shields in small group instruction, reinforcing concepts, and project based learning. All of these strategies will be implemented in Math and Language Arts. For example, in Reading we do Daily 5 which involves Listen to Reading. Students may use RAZ Kids to listen to stories, read them, and take quizzes. For Math we will use Math Board to reinforce math fact fluency (you would be amazed how my previous students literally RAN to do their Math Minute). In addition, students would use Virtual Manipulatives to aid in their fraction/decimal learning. In Writing students can respond on student blog and practice spelling on Spelling City. In Science and Social Studies students will research, create slide shows, and present them to the class using Stage Pro, Educreations, and ShowMe. Those are simply what I have planned for now, but fifth graders are incredibly ingenious students so their creativity will be fueled with these tools.
Fifth grade students have incredible potential.
It is that pivotal time that bridges between elementary and middle school. Students are eager to experiment, learn and grow, especially if they are given tools. These iPads, shields and protective cases have the ability to increase achievement. And, on a more personal note, they will encourage students that the world believes in them. That confidence, partnered with the increase in academic achievement, will fuel their mind.
