My Students
Our elementary school is comprised of grades K-5. We have about 240 students. School-wide we are just under 40% free and reduced breakfast and lunch. Our fourth grade is just under 50% free and reduced. Our population is becoming more diverse each year.
Students work hard in school and they let our 3 school expectations guide them socially and academically: Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Safe.
This field trip will be a great opportunity for students to work as a team along with getting some additional hands-on science. Additionally, students will learn how their behavior in their neighborhoods influences the cleanliness of our wonderful Lake Champlain. (i.e. picking up after themselves, their pets, washing their family cars on the lawn, and asking their parents to not use fertilizers on the lawn).
My Project
To culminate our 4th-grade school year students will participate in two activities, a land activity focused on being good stewards of Lake Champlain and the second activity will be enjoying a ride on a small sailboat. While on the ride students will be answering questions about the history of the lake and the function of the lake along with identifying geographic areas in Vermont and New York. They will be able to connect the hands-on learning we did throughout the year. The largest connection will be around land and water and how erosion plays a part in our community. Students will also get a hands-on experience learning how to operate a sailboat.
