Help me give my students a way to build team cooperation and practice detective skills by working together to solve and escape Breakout Edu Digital Rooms!
My students are an awesome mix of inner-city and suburban kids diverse in their backgrounds as they are in their creativity. Like many teenagers, my students' lives can be demanding in many ways - economically, emotionally, and at times, physically. They are working on developing a balance between their own academics and interests while developing confidence in their reading and writing abilities. Together, we are working hard to build empathy, compassion, and collaborative trust in order to become well-rounded, productive contributors to society. There is a pretty even split of girls to boys, and both need high interest, awesome books to keep them reading! My students are consistently in search of great books, either digital or live, to keep them occupied. In my English classes, my students and I try to bring to life history through the contexts of classical texts in order to build an understanding of the current world. We often put into practice the foundational skills taught in English class into real life, career scenarios. Their ideas are creative, innovative, and focus on thinking locally to help sustain the world globally; we just need the tools, resources, and materials to make their ideas into reality.
My Project
Being trapped at home and learning from home during the pandemic has not been easy. Teaching students to work together while apart has been quite challenging as well. By creating an account with Breakout Edu, students can practice cooperating with others through a digital means in order to escape the digital breakout rooms. They can build motivation and stamina by collaborating with peers to solve puzzles thereby utilizing their inferencing, reasoning, and deduction skills. Students will love coming to class from home to solve mysteries and build bonds with their friends!
