This project will benefit a very special group of 7th grade girls at our school. Like most middle schools, we have our share of conflicts and "drama" amongst the female students in particular. We notice that the young ladies who engage in "girl-on-girl" conflict all have the potential to become leaders amongst their peers.
We have created our "Empowering Girls" after-school program to target a group of girls with strong leadership potential, and to give these students the self-confidence and the tools to become leaders in problem-solving and promoting unity in our school community.
These young ladies will engage in a variety of activities that will equip them to build healthy peer relationships, solve problems in a respectful way, and engage in our school community in a positive way.
At our middle school, we have noticed an increase in peer conflicts amongst our 7th grade females. We have created an after-school program for our young ladies, to develop their leadership skills, self-confidence, and teamwork. Our program will provide a combination of social skill practice and fun, engaging activities that will give our young ladies a sense of purpose and connection to each other and to our school. One activity we are planning is to visit this challenge course at Sac State. This will help our young ladies towards the goal of building teamwork and self-confidence, and will give them a fun life experience that they have never had before!
