Ms. DuMont from Richmond VA is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need an iPad, protective case and adapter to teach writing skills as well as to enhance practice with and exposure to technology in the classroom.

In the age of technology my classroom is behind the times! Thanks to DonorsChoose I now have an LCD projector to use in the class. Now we need an iPad to take advantage of all the educational apps available!
I teach about 100 high school ESL students from 19 different countries.
We learn in an inner-city school that faces many of the same budget struggles as other urban schools across the country. My students are hard workers and often come to me with big gaps in their formal schooling. I have a few students this year who are in school for the first time in their lives. I also have a growing number of ESL students with special needs.
I first became interested in getting an iPad for my students through my school's technology resource teacher. She introduced me to an app for learning how to write by tracing letters on the iPad with your finger. I have a student with special needs who has struggled for the past 14 months with tracing simple letter patterns. When we handed her the resource teacher's iPad and opened the writing app, she enthusiastically- and accurately- traced every letter! Wow! I began looking into other educational uses for an iPad and they are seemingly endless. There are many educational apps that cover all subject areas, and that is precisely what I would like to use to supplement the materials I have already created. The visuals are amazing and the ease of the touch pad is perfect for our needs. With the VGA adapter I have also requested, I will be able to project these apps for the benefit of the whole class- what an exciting prospect!
We live in a world of daily technological advances, and my students need greater exposure to that technology.
By bringing an iPad into the classroom I will be able to help students learn to write, learn about solar systems, literature and history, and learn how to expand their knowledge and vocabulary in these content areas through the technology available through iPad apps. Thanks for partnering with my class in this technological endeavor!
