We are an increasingly digital society. Sadly, not all students have equal access to that technology. I want to be able to provide all of my students with equal access to quality technology. I am working on developing my ability to integrate this technology into the classroom in an effective way.
I teach in an urban, elementary school with over 800 students.
We are a melting pot of children from many different countries and backgrounds. We have been overcrowded for several years and are excited to be getting an annex to ease the overcrowding. This year, I teach third grade students. They are a diverse group of students: different races, cultures, home languages, learning styles, etc.
My Project
I am looking forward to using the iPads in class for all content areas. I hope to use them as a way to differentiate instruction. For example, I envision students using them in math to master multiplication and division tables. In social studies, I hope to have students work in groups with the iPads to uncover primary and secondary sources related to our study of our city's history. In language arts, the iPads will allow students to read different materials and respond to them in various ways. I hope to increase the amount of partner and group work while decreasing the amount of lecture/teacher led instruction. I am hoping to make the learning more interesting for the students.
This project will allow me to provide access to technology that not all students have at home.
I have several students who often want to continue learning online, but don't have access at home. The iPads would allow me to work with those students at school and bridge the gap. I hope it improves the classroom environment by making it a more exciting place for students. I hope it engages the otherwise difficult to engage students who are not reaching their potential through current ways.
