Do you remember learning to read? Maybe it came easy to you and you could read and even write your own stories. Or perhaps learning to read was a struggle for you as it is for many first grade students. Working with iPads can help students of varying levels learn and advance in reading.
I have a classroom full of 6 and 7 year old children who are as sweet as they can be!
They stem from hardworking families and yet they are still low income. Our school is considered Title 1, which means that many of my students live without many luxuries in life, including exposure to quality technology. I have several students who come from backgrounds where English is not the primary language spoken. They are still struggling to acquire our language and even responsible for teaching people at home to speak English.
We have a great school full of dedicated teachers and administrators who are doing what we can to enrich the lives of these children. Would you help me give these children opportunities to advance their learning and grow to be successful? These children are our future!
My Project
Working at a Title 1 school means working with students who do not have access to technology similar to that of their peers. Every day I try to teach and enrich the lives of all of my sweet kids, but feel like I am not able to give them exposure to the technology that is becoming our world. How great would it be to allow children to explore apps that they think are so much fun, but that they receive so much knowledge and experience from? My class is full of children on varying levels. Sometimes it it hard to differentiate instruction and reach each and every child, every day. Having an iPad in the classroom would allow me to set aside a small group working on a project, such as the Socket Puppet app, to bring to life a story that they have written. There are so many knowledge based apps out there that my students are thirsty for! It excites me to think of all of the great ways they can grow this year with something they may not have available to them anywhere else but school.
Having an iPad to integrate into our classroom would expose my kids to technology that they may have never seen!
They will learn to use different apps to advance their knowledge of reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. Students will learn how to complete technology based projects and collaborate with each other. Exposing children to technology when they are young will help us prepare them for their future because they are our future.
