The world is full of amazing technology! Unfortunately my students don't have access to this world except for the one hour a week they have in the school's computer lab.
I have 27 students in my third grade class-18 boys and 9 girls!
This is a very high energy group that I need to use my whole repertoire of teaching strategies with. I have 3 students who are English Language Learners, 3 students who qualify for special education. Two students have special modification/accommodation plans and 4 students are diagnosed with learning disabilities. In addition, I have 1 student designated as Gifted and Talented. Our school is in a low/middle income area of a small town in California. It is a Kindergarten to 6th grade school with around 550 students.
My Project
Currently, in my classroom I use an overhead projector and transparencies for language arts, math, science, and social studies curriculum. My 20-year old TV works most of the time, but my DVD player doesn't. I have a teacher computer, but no computers for students to use in the classroom. For presentations, there is one projector per building.
I am requesting an Apple iPad, a document camera, and a WiFi adapter to create an interactive mobile technology station. This will enable me to bring more resources into my classroom to supplement the curriculum and meet the needs of all my students. It will allow the students to share their daily work as well as presentations with the whole class.
The students will gain experience in working with new technology and be inspired to try new things.
It will give me a way to record lessons for students who are absent or who need to watch the lesson again at home. I would also be able to do fun classroom management activities with the students.
All students deserve the best educational experience possible.
There are amazing resources available for the classroom that use technology-I want to give my students access to them! In receiving the items for my mobile technology station, the students and I would get the opportunity to share, explore, and discover new things!
