My students need 3 Dell Inspiron laptops to support literacy skills, conduct online research, and create digital presentations.

My school consists of 320 amazing students in kindergarten through 5th grade. They come to school excited, eager to learn, and with a smile on their faces every day! Many of my students face the challenges of poverty and violence in their homes and neighborhoods. Our school is a place where students can get support, encouragement, and the inspiration to become the best they can be!
As the Library Media Specialist, I strive to instill a love of reading in all my students.
I want them to see the joy in reading and to make it a part of their daily lives. My favorite part of the school day is when I read aloud a story to my students. You can see the excitement on their faces as they listen intently to the story and get involved by making predictions and asking questions. I love when they ask me, "What book are we reading next?"
Today's students are growing up in a technology-focused world. Dell laptops will enable my kindergarten through 5th grade students to develop the digital literacy skills they need to be successful students. The laptops will be used by classes, small groups, and individual students when they come to the library.
Learning with technology promotes engagement, communication, and collaboration.
My 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will use the laptops to conduct online research on topics such as authors, inventors, role models, animals, and presidents. They will present information learned by creating slideshows, videos, and digital magazines and posters. Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students will use the laptops to support early literacy skills. They will listen to books online and visit websites with games that support reading skills.
Laptops will also be used to increase reading achievement as students will use them to take Accelerated Reader quizzes. Students read a book then take a computer-based quiz to assess their comprehension of the book. Students love earning points for correct answers and receiving prizes for their effort and hard work!
The possibilities for teaching with technology are endless! Students can create their own books, have online discussions about their favorite books, and even create a school newspaper. Please help me prepare my students to be productive students and citizens in our technology-focused world!
