Mrs. Thomas from Atlanta GA is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 4 Acer Chromebooks with two protection plans to have technology at their fingertips to daily explore a world beyond their community.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
As David Warlick said, "We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher’s hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world.” I teach 21st Century Learners and I want to help them become 21st Century savvy.
My students attend a Title 1 school that has a daily rising population of 700+ students.
As a result, textbooks and resources aligned to Common Core and Career & College Readiness standards are very limited. However, technology is an equitable solution to our insufficiency. In my classroom, my students have access to 3 dependable computers. In spite of the shortage, my students still desire to have a paperless classroom that is digitally-driven. This project is my first attempt to help them begin meeting their goal. My students are extremely creative, bright, competitive, problem solvers who aren't afraid of a challenge and have overcome many obstacles. I see them demonstrate this on a daily basis as they set, tackle and meet their own academic goals and fight to maintain our attendance trophy by coming to school everyday! They desire to be global-minded change agents in our world and they see technology as their access pass.
With these Chromebook, my students will be able to collaborate with their peers during whole/small groups discussions, create viable arguments based on online research and study, look up unfamiliar words faster , write and publish essays, create and present digital projects, complete assessments that will daily guide my instruction, and explore the world beyond their neighborhood. On a field trip, I recently discovered that many of my students have not been exposed to even popular landmarks in our city. Many of them have not traveled outside of the city or our state. Therefore, I desire for them to develop international relationships by interacting with other classrooms across the world. Furthermore, my students will have more access to the adaptive software, such as IXL, Tenmarks, Accelerated Reader & etc., that personalizes instruction based on each child’s performance. Thereby, making them more prepared for end of the year online standardized state testing.
Your generous donation will help my students meet their goal to have a paperless classroom, further engage their learning as 21st Century Learners and expand their knowledge of our world by learning about cultures they may never see or experience physically but can access digitally.
Your assistance will help me make a pivotal mark in their lives that can never be erased!
