The students at my school are literally a melting pot of the world. We have families representing countries from several different continents. They help each other adapt to a new culture and are willing to make a new friend, even if that new friend doesn't speak their native language. They are eager to learn, and as a school, we strive to instill a lifelong acceptance of others.
As a charter school in a lower income area, with more than 40 percent of our students on free and/or reduced lunches, my students do more with less.
Yet, their passion to succeed can be seen in the fact that we test as one of the top schools in the state on standardized tests.
My Project
As the leader of an action team at our school, I want to encourage all the educators to join me in immersing ourselves in the ideas and motivation found in Angela Duckworth's book GRIT.
Teaching a child that passion and perseverance can make an enormous difference in their educational success is key to success in the classroom and life.
Making this set available to parents in the library will also allow them to implement the things taught in this book at home.
My students are smart and hungry to learn. I want all of our educators to be able to teach with GRIT and learn how to develop that same quality in our students. I want to provide the teachers with the tools they need to implement the ideas taught by Angela Duckworth in her book, Grit. Posters, bulletin board displays, and children's books will be necessary to give the teachers the added support and resources to be successful and to create a culture of grit.
